Reading Programs

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is the program we use to monitor a student's individual reading, and we call it AR.  The program locates each student's reading level which then allows to students to find books on his/her reading level.  The child reads his/her book as much as necessary to comprehend the story, and then takes an AR quiz.  The teacher is then able to monitor the student's progress with independent reading.  Each quarter, students are rewarded for their hard work with AR.  The AR BookFinder allows everyone to find books within each student's reading level.

Show Me Reader Award

The Show Me Reader program is sponsored by the Missouri Association of School Librarians for students in grades 1, 2 and 3.  Ten books are selected as nominees, and students read the books in order to vote for their favorite.  The books are newly published books of authors living in America, and they are specifically written for these grades.  We will vote for our favorite book in March.

The Mark Twain Reader Award program is also sponsored by the Missouri Association of School Librarians for students in grade 4, 5 and 6. The books are newly published books and have literary value for the students of this age.   Students read the nominated books and vote in March.
